I've been taking a hiatus from my usual work to do some interior decorating for my dear friend Waialoha. Believing that good graphic design can be good interior design, she entrusted me with the vision of creating a "Rainforest" themed room for her two year old daughter, Kamele. After a night of Disney, Waialoha informed me her vision had become "Princess Rainforest" and to incorporate pink into the picture.
While I'm not a huge pink fan, I channeled back into the depths of my childhood when my mother decided I liked Strawberry Shortcake and discovered my inner princess exists and that I really enjoyed being a girly girl again.
The room started from this:

and over the next few weeks was transformed into this:

We had a budget of course, and the only original piece of furniture that stayed in the room was the crib.
Thanks to discount stores like Ross, Marshalls, thrift stores, antique shops and Craigslist - most of the items were purchased at a huge discount than if I bought all new items. The rug was a major part of the room and I decided worth getting new (on sale) since I knew playing on the floor would be a given.
I added a ton of storage for her and customized a number of store bought items and used items to all be part of the theme. IKEA items were used for a few of the pieces because quite frankly, IKEA is so affordable. Can you spot them?

Slipcovered Craiglist find - the rocker/recliner is a MUST for a new mom I was told.

One of the best used furniture finds, this log shelf which I did secure to the ceiling so it won't tip should Kamele climb on it.

Thanks to Krista Wheeler for her photography, Black Wagon for the mural and art, and especially to Waialoha for believing in my vision. Next up: Tuscan Dining Room (no joke!)
